South America
South America is the second largest producer of tobacco in the world, making it a significant area of operation within Universal’s family of regions. We handle the leaf sales and processing for an estimated 15% to 20% of the annual production of flue-cured Virginia, burley and Galpão tobaccos in Brazil.
Universal’s processing facility in Brazil manages all of our sourcing, processing, and selling of flue-cured and burley leaf tobaccos in this region. It is equipped with a specialized staff and contemporary processing technology that provides the flexibility to meet specific customer needs and the most rigid international quality standards. Our ESG goals and initiatives are core to our belief of making a difference in people’s lives, communities and our planet.
Universal believes in maintaining a strong relationship with its growers through technical assistance, rural credit, supply of seeds, agricultural material, and guaranteed crop purchases. Our ongoing objective is to provide the highest possible standards of leaf tobacco quality to our worldwide leaf tobacco customers.
